Walks Around St Mary Church

St Mary Church is well placed for access to the Vale of Glamorgan’s extensive network of public footpaths, clearly marked on the OS large scale walking map Explorer 151 (Cardiff and Bridgend). It lies right on the route of the  Millennium Heritage Trail which meanders for 65 miles around the Vale coast and countryside connecting points of scenic and historic interest. Follow the Trail for 2 miles over the fields from St Mary Church and you arrive in Llanblethian not far from the centre of Cowbridge.  The condition of the network  has been dramatically improved over the last ten years by the Barry-based environmental charity Valeways . As well as carrying out the necessary fieldwork Valeways  is producing a series of colourful and easy-to-follow free leaflets (10 so far)  covering circular walks in the Vale ranging between 3 and 10 miles. These are available in  Cowbridge (Library and Vale Council office) and Llantwit Major (Post Office and Town Hall tourist information office).

Valeways work programme for 2007 includes a number of necessary improvements to footpath installations  in the Llanfair Community area which will open up a new circular walk linking the three villages of St Mary Church, St Hilary and Llandough (more details on this website in the next few months).

In the meantime please take a look at the excellent Valeways web site for details of local walks in the Vale of Glamorgan
